Sadaqah: A New Perspective
Have you ever wanted to donate money as charity (Sadaqah) but were hesitant because you don’t want to lose any wealth?
“My donation is too small; what difference will it make?”
“Does Sadaqah have to be money?”
“I want to give, but I don’t know where or how to.”
These are common thoughts that go through our heads whenever we consider giving charity.
Sadaqah is the voluntary giving of charity to those in need. In Arabic, “sadaqah” means righteousness and stems from the word “sidq,” which means “truth.”
In this blog, we will address these questions and ease the hesitations of giving charity.
- Your wealth will increase when you give!
Allah states in the Quran that giving in charity, whether big or small, will increase your wealth and righteousness.
“Who will lend Allah a good loan so that he can increase it many times?”(Quran 2:245).
A verse that genuinely puts a smile on one’s face. Fear not; God promises to increase any amount that is given purely for God’s sake. This verse should motivate us to give to those in need, for it is God who controls our provisions.
Allah also mentions in the Quran that giving in Sadaqah will never decrease wealth, but in fact, increase it exponentially:
“The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a grain that produced seven ears, each ear having a hundred grains, and Allah multiplies (the reward) for whom He wills. Allah is All-Embracing and All-Knowing [2:261].”
Sadaqah is one thing for sure to increase your remaining wealth by increasing the blessings of Allah on it in ways we cannot imagine. Invest in the Hereafter and check out how you can multiply your rewards by giving Sadaqah today.
- No donation is too small.
The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said that “the most beloved deeds to God are those that are consistent, even if they are small.”
Islam is a faith of inclusion. You don’t have to be rich to give! Anyone can donate, within their means, even if it is a small amount. In fact, consistent small deeds are the best deeds.
Small donations add up! Together, we can create positive and sustainable changes for many vulnerable people around the world.
The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “Protect yourself by giving charity, even with half of a date.”
- Sadaqah is more than just money.
Giving Sadaqah is not limited to money, but rather an act of righteousness, even as small as a smile or an act of kindness.
The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “Your smile for your brother or sister is charity.”
Actions such as volunteering your time with others or providing necessities such as water, food or clothing are acts of charity.
The Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) assured his ummah by saying in an authentic hadith Qudsi, “Allah says, spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you” (Bukhari).
- So, where and how can I give my Sadaqah?
