Creating Opportunity

More than income generation

HCI’s livelihoods program focuses on supporting women, men and youth to develop their skills and engage in decent, safe work. Through vocational and specialized skills training, we enable people to generate income and lift themselves and their families out of poverty. Women and youth benefit from our training centres and learn weaving, sewing, tailoring and catering skills that increase their financial independence and expand their opportunities.

COVID-19 has presented challenges for those that work in the informal sector. Social distancing, limited access to goods, and lockdowns have taken away families’ sources of income. HCI’s livelihoods program is working to find sustainable solutions for low income families to generate income in new ways that incorporate environmental sustainability and technical skills.

Inclusive Growth

Everyone deserves to engage in safe, dignified work regardless of their gender or ability. HCI is working to support the training of widows, refugees, and those living with disabilities in order to expand their opportunities. Supporting HCI’s livelihoods program is an investment in future generations and a hope for a more equitable world.

In The Field

One of the best ways to make an impact in vulnerable communities is to empower men and women to gain relevant skills for employment, or to provide them with the resources needed to encourage entrepreneurship. Human Concern International provides vulnerable families with microfinancing, livestock, and access to training centres.
