Surrey, BC – Human Concern International (HCI), a global leader in humanitarian aid and development, is investing in transformative local programs for seniors through a partnership with Mosaic Seniors Care Society, the operator of Gateway Assisted Living in Surrey, British Columbia. This initiative underscores HCI’s growing commitment to addressing seniors’ health care and housing needs, both in Canada and abroad.
Imam Zijad Delic, who recently joined HCI and is taking a leading role in seniors’ programs, visited Gateway Assisted Living during his recent trip to Metro Vancouver. His visit included a hands-on engagement with staff and residents, highlighting the importance of care, community, and compassion. Imam Zijad also lent a hand in the kitchen, creating a special moment for a promotional video showcasing Gateway’s commitment to personalized, holistic care.
Imam Zijad’s work with HCI extends beyond Canada, as he intends to lead a seniors’ care initiative in Bosnia. The visit to Gateway Assisted Living provides him with valuable insights and best practices to inform this international project.
“At HCI, we are committed to not only supporting global initiatives but also making a meaningful difference in our own communities,” said Imam Zijad Delic. “Gateway Assisted Living stands as a model of excellence, and we are inspired to replicate and adapt their success to improve the lives of seniors abroad.”

Located in Surrey, Gateway Assisted Living operates a 60-bed, government-funded program offering essential services for seniors, including health care, housing, daily meals, housekeeping, and laundry. Seniors must meet specific health care criteria to qualify for these services, which are supported by Fraser Health Authority and housing subsidies through BC Housing. This innovative model ensures dignity and quality of life for seniors, especially those with demonstrated needs. Gateway Assisted Living will provide ethnically appropriate care for Muslims living in their community including halal meal options and Islamic programming.
Since 1980, HCI has delivered hundreds of millions in aid and development programs worldwide, addressing urgent needs and fostering sustainable change. Through partnerships like this one with Mosaic Seniors Care Society, HCI is expanding its impact locally in Canada while drawing global connections to address common challenges, such as seniors’ health care and housing.
HCI and Gateway Assisted Living invite supporters, community members, and stakeholders to celebrate this partnership and join efforts to enhance seniors’ care. Photos and videos from Imam Zijad’s visit will be available on HCI’s and Gateway’s social media channels, highlighting the collaboration in action.
