Attending school, however, is not enough. Children need to have access to qualified teachers, graduate school with relevant skills that leads to meaningful employment, and embody the character traits that enable them to lead healthy lives.
Ultimately, we aim to build schools and talent pools to educate and equip children and young people to be the guardians and leaders of their futures and their communities’ health and well being.
Rukhsana Khan
Asalamualaikum! My name is Rukhsana Khan and I’m a children’s author and storyteller.
My books have won a number of awards, one of them was even chosen by the New York Public library as one of the 100 Greatest Children’s Books in the Last 100 Years!
I visit around eighty schools a year, all over Canada, the U.S. and internationally, and I meet thousands of students from kindergarten to high school.
My work goes from light-hearted fun for primary children to serious issues like teen suicide, loss, abandonment and child refugees. But even my more serious presentations are laced with humour and are age appropriate.
When I was a kid growing up in the small town of Dundas, Ontario, I always dreamed of being an author. I feel blessed that my dreams have come true.
And now, at a time when there is so much conflict in the world, I hope my stories and work can help create some cross-cultural understanding.
NOTE: Rukhsana Khan’s books can be found for sale in the HCI Bookstore, please have a look HERE. All proceeds will go to HCI’s water projects!

Hafsa Khan
Asalamualaikum!
I’m Hafsa Khan, your Generous Juniors Club Coordinator and fellow GJs parent.
I’ve grown up volunteering with HCI since I was a teenager, and I wanted that blessed experience for my daughters too. Together, we envisioned a Sadaqah club for kids. We dreamed of bringing together a community of like-minded parents and kids to join us in supporting HCI’s beautiful child sponsorship program, but on a new, more personal level.
