Food Aid: Feed a Family, Defeat Hunger

Give food aid through Canada’s oldest Muslim relief organisation. Your food aid donation becomes a hot meal, a food parcel, or fresh bread for a family who would otherwise go hungry tonight.

"They give food, despite their love for it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, saying: We feed you only for the sake of Allah."

- Surah Al-Insan 76:8-9

Why Your Food Aid Donation Matters

Hunger is not a distant problem. Right now, around two billion people across the world live without reliable access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. For many of them, the next meal is not a certainty but a hope. Your food aid donation turns that hope into a plate of food on the table tonight.

Feeding the hungry is one of the most beloved acts in Islam. The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught that the best of people are those most beneficial to others, and few acts are as immediately beneficial as putting food into the hands of someone who has none. When you give food aid, you are not just filling your stomach. You are restoring dignity, easing fear, and answering a prayer.

For over 46 years, Human Concern International has stood on the frontlines of hunger. From war-torn Gaza to drought-hit communities and food banks here in Canada, your food aid donation reaches families through a network built on one promise: that food should be available, accessible, and adequate for every human being.

What Is Food Insecurity, and Who Does It Affect?

Food insecurity is when a person does not have physical or economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. It is not always dramatic. Sometimes it is a parent quietly skipping meals so their children can eat. Sometimes it is a family stretching a single bag of flour across a week.

It is also closer to home than many Canadians realise. Over 1.15 million Canadian children face food insecurity. You do not have to look far from home to find a family in need, which is why HCI’s food aid works both overseas and within Canada’s own communities.

Globally, the picture is staggering. Conflict, displacement, drought, and economic collapse have pushed entire regions into crisis. In places like Gaza, Yemen, and Sudan, the problem is no longer only that food is expensive. In the worst-hit areas, there is simply no food to buy, because farms, bakeries, and markets have been destroyed. This is where emergency food aid becomes the difference between survival and starvation.

How Your Food Aid Donation Reaches Families

HCI does not just hand out food and leave. We build food systems that work in the hardest places on earth, and we train local people to lead them. Here is what your food aid donation makes possible.

Emergency food aid in Gaza

When farms, bakeries, and shops are destroyed, survival cannot be left to chance. HCI launched a large-scale emergency food aid programme in Gaza, moving food through one of the tightest humanitarian corridors in the world. Food is procured from vetted vendors in Jerusalem and through Lebanon via the Cyprus Maritime Humanitarian Corridor, then brought in mainly through the Kerem Shalom crossing.

The impact: To date, your donations have delivered 5,940,480 meals to over 300,000 people, including displaced families, orphans, and persons with disabilities, along with 58,240 food boxes packed for 30 days and 3,900 flour packs so families can bake fresh bread. With HCI, $1 provides one meal.

Daily bread in Yemen

In Yemen, where years of conflict have left millions on the edge of famine, HCI has opened two bakeries that bake more than 8,000 loaves of fresh bread every single day. For a Yemeni family or an orphan with nothing else, that warm loaf is often the only reliable meal of the day.

The impact: Your food aid donation keeps the ovens running, turning flour into thousands of loaves daily for families and orphans who depend on them.

Food banks and hunger relief in Canada

Hunger exists in our own neighbourhoods. Ottawa alone has a Muslim population of around 145,000 that is underserved by the city’s only Muslim food bank, which cannot keep up with growing demand. HCI works to fill that gap so no family is turned away because of their postal code.

The impact: Your food aid donation helps stock shelves and feed families right here in Canada, ensuring local communities are not forgotten.

Building lasting food security

Emergency food aid keeps people alive in a crisis. But HCI also works on what comes next, partnering with communities to find practical, equitable solutions to food shortages and training locals to lead and run the programmes themselves.

The impact: Your food aid donation does double duty: it feeds a family today, and it helps build the local systems that prevent hunger tomorrow.

A Sacred Trust Honoured: What Your Support Made Possible in 2025

Thanks to the trust placed in us by our supporters, Human Concern International (HCI) provided steady, long-term support to 92,822 families (497,938 individuals) throughout the year.

In 2025, your generosity provided food security to 299,998 people across 11 countries, including 46,100 meals funded through Zakat al-Fitr.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“The best charity is that given consistently.” (meaning aligned with authentic teachings)

Your continued support helps families meet daily needs with dignity, care, and resilience.

A Family Is Waiting for This Meal

Somewhere tonight, a mother is dividing a single piece of bread between her children. A father is telling his family to sleep early so they feel less. An orphan is waiting for a meal that may not come. Your food aid donation is the reason it can come.

Hunger does not wait, and neither should we. Give food aid now, and become the answer to a prayer that a hungry family has been making while you read this. No one should have to go hungry, and with your help, no one in our reach has to.
