HCI works with local teams to select children in the greatest need. Criteria include being of school-going age, coming from a low-income household, being enrolled in school (unless a disability prevents it), and not receiving support from another NGO. Yes. Because the children HCI supports come from low-income, vulnerable households, orphan sponsorship typically qualifies as Zakat-eligible. Simply indicate that you intend your sponsorship as Zakat, and HCI will ensure it reaches eligible children in line with Islamic guidelines.
If you stop contributing, the child is offered to other donors. If a new sponsor is not found promptly, HCI upholds the child’s sponsorship for a minimum of one year using Zakat funds. If a payment fails for a technical reason like an expired card, HCI continues funding the child while our donor care team resolves it.
