Free medical camp organized in remote Tangail village

A free medical camp was held in the Durgomchar area of Bhuapur in Tangail.

On Tuesday, the camp took place at Arjuna Char Shushua Government Primary School, an initiative by Human Concern USA, and funded by Humaniti.

Bashir Kha, a 70-year-old man who came for treatment, said: “I have been suffering from pain in my hand joints for a long time. To see a doctor, I need to cross the river by boat to go to Bhuapur or Sirajganj. Today, I was able to consult a doctor here for free and also received medicine.”

Jarina Begum, a 60-year-old woman, said: “I’ve been dealing with eye problems and back pain for a long time. Even after consulting doctors, I didn’t see any improvement. Today, I got a free check-up and was given medicine as well.”

Sonia Islam Farin, a madrasa student, said: “I’ve been suffering from back and abdominal pain for 2-3 years. Even after visiting doctors, the pain hasn’t subsided. That’s why I came here today to consult the doctors.”

Masum Mahbub, the CEO of Human Concern USA, said: “There is a lack of proper healthcare facilities in the remote char villages. With this in mind, we thought about how to provide free medical services to these people. Like other places in the country, we initiated a program to offer medical care in four villages of the remote char area of Bhuapur in Tangail. On the first day, 300 people from the northern part of Char Shushua village were provided free medical services.”

He added: “Experienced doctors conducted examinations and provided medicines to the patients. So far, we’ve carried out similar activities in Rohingya camps and other areas. Nationwide, we aim to provide medical services to 3,000 people every month and 36,000 people annually.”
