Human Concern International (HCI) strongly condemns the recent attack on a camp for over 100,000 displaced Palestinians in Rafah by Israel, which resulted in the tragic loss of at least 30 lives, including many children. This atrocity represents a continued violation of international law and human rights, and it underscores the urgent need for accountability.
The deliberate targeting of civilians, especially those seeking refuge in what are designated by Israel as “safe zones,” is a blatant disregard for international humanitarian norms. The use of heavy munitions including missiles and 2000-pound bombs in densely populated areas has led to unimaginable suffering and destruction.
Canada, as a nation committed to upholding international law and human rights, must take a stand. It is imperative that our government holds Israel accountable for these egregious actions and advocates for the protection of innocent lives in Gaza. The international community, including Canada, cannot remain silent in the face of such grave violations.
HCI calls on Canadian officials to push for immediate investigations and to support measures that ensure justice for the victims of this and other attacks. Canada must support and respect the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC) and their jurisdiction. Canada must call on Israel to comply with the ICJ’S order to halt it’s operation in Rafah. The world must act now to prevent further loss of life and to support a permanent ceasefire to the conflict in Gaza.
Human Concern International is the oldest Muslim relief organization in Canada, fighting poverty for over 40 years.
