Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims, marked by fasting, prayer, reflection, and increased acts of charity. For the Muslim community in Ottawa, having accurate prayer and fasting times is an essential part of preparing for each day of Ramadan.
The Ramadan timetable below provides daily prayer times for Ottawa, including Fajr (Suhoor end), Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib (Iftar), and Isha throughout the month. These timings are based on local calculations and are intended to help individuals and families observe fasting and prayers with clarity and confidence.
As Ramadan follows the lunar Islamic calendar, the exact start and end dates may vary depending on the sighting of the moon. We encourage community members to stay connected with local mosques for confirmations, especially at the beginning and end of the month.
May this Ramadan be a time of spiritual growth, patience, and compassion for our community.

(Prayer and fasting times are approximate and subject to confirmation based on local moon sighting)
From what is known of the practice of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through authentic narrations, there is no specific supplication that he regularly recited at the end of suhoor to formally begin the fast. Rather, the start of fasting was marked by making the intention in the heart.
For the obligatory fasts of Ramadan, forming this intention before Fajr is essential. While there is no fixed wording that must be spoken, many Muslims choose to recite a short dua after completing suhoor as a personal reminder of their intention to fast for the sake of Allah.
Whoever eats food and then says: ‘All praise is due to Allah who fed me this and granted it as provision to me, without any effort from me nor power (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3458)
As Maghrib approaches and the call to prayer marks the end of the fasting day, many of us pause before eating or drinking. This is a moment of gratitude and reflection, when it is Sunnah to make dua before breaking the fast. Traditionally, this dua is recited just before taking the first sip of water or eating a date.
ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ”
“Thirst has gone, the arteries are moist, and the reward is sure, if Allah wills.” (Sunan Abi Dawud 2357)
