All children are special

From Gaza to Pakistan,

Human Concern International (HCI) has made it its mission to ensure that visually-impaired and hearing-impaired students in Gaza and Pakistan have access to the education they need. Through humanitarian aid, HCI provides specialized equipment, healthcare, education, social integration programs and other services to thousands of children in need.

One way HCI works to improve the lives of students with special needs is by providing financial assistance for their schooling. In 2019, HCI supported over 800 students with tuition fees, textbooks and supplies, enabling them to attend school. In 2021, HCI assisted 520 visually-impaired students to pursue their education and provided the school with the resources needed to equip classes with braille typewriters. They also set up training programs for teachers so that the educational environment can be more inclusive for disabled students.

In Pakistan, special-needs students were provided skills and vocational training to prepare them for the workforce. This includes teaching them how to use technology, how to cook, or how to sow, which can help them qualify for specific jobs, as well as providing vocational assistance to young adults who have completed their studies so they have a greater chance of finding employment.

By helping these disadvantaged individuals learn new skills and gain confidence through the job market, HCI is working toward giving them the opportunity not just to be part of a workforce but also contribute meaningfully towards society on their own terms.
